FAQ

General

Does SMS require the use of admin dashboards or spreadsheets?

No dashboards nor spreadsheets necessary! SMS was designed to be fully in app meaning all features and functions of the software are available to all users without ever having to leave SMS.

What data entry is required in the administration of SMS?

No data entry is required to administer SMS in the regular course of use.

Data entry is only required when physically printed Repair Work Orders (RWOs) must be utilized for whatever reason. When RWOs are necessary administrators are still able to quickly scan the QR code on the RWO to load the affected leak’s workflow, enabling partial automation on an otherwise manual process.

Does SMS support the edit and or deletion of records?

Yes, administrators can easily edit or delete records to rectify data entry errors. Controls have been built into SMS to prevent compliance data from being accidentally deleted (for instance, repaired leaks cannot be deleted).

Is SMS billed as a one-time payment or an annual subscription?

SMS is an annual subscription billable every 12 months with net 30 payment terms.

Is SMS sold in tiered plans like Basic and Pro?

No, each copy of SMS is fully functional and any additional features introduced to all customers will be included in your version as well! There is never any need to upgrade your plan.

Do all customers receive free product support?

Thirty hours of telephone support are included per calendar year. Given that SMS is designed for simplicity we find that most users don’t require any support; however, if additional support is necessary during the year it is available at a very reasonable cost.

Industrial

Does SMS support both soap solution screenings and Audio, Visual and Olfactory (AVO) screenings?

Yes, SMS works with both types of screening regardless if soap solution or the AVO method is utilized. If the AVO method is utilized SMS will also produce an AVO Screening Checklist for each screening performed which is available on demand by administrators.

Is SMS designed to be utilized internally or by third party contractors?

SMS is designed to reduce compliance cost by up to 85% by leveraging existing staff to perform well screenings instead of relying on surveys or screenings performed by contractors. SMS is simple to use and employees who routinely visit these well locations can easily be tasked with locating, administering and repairing leaks managed by SMS.

We of course understand that not all facets of a LDAR program may be internalizable and as such SMS can facilitate the use of third parties such as repair contractors.

Does SMS require routine visits to the oil wells?

SMS works best when incorporated into the schedules of employees who routinely visit the affected oil wells; however, SMS works equally as well and provides massive benefits in efficiency and cost for those companies who still need to schedule specific visits to these wells.

Why color-coded field tags and how do they work onsite?

SMS features up to three user-configurable colors that can be used on the three different classifications of fugitive leaks. The three classifications of fugitive leaks being:

1. Leaks due within 24 hours
2. Leaks due within 30 days
3. Delayed leaks (unrepairable at this time)

For example, ‘Client A’ may choose to have red for leak classification #1, orange for #2 and white for #3, while ‘Client B’ may choose to have orange for both leak classifications #1 and #2 and green for #3.

Color-coding tags raises efficiency by allowing users of SMS to visually scan a well site to gain an initial understanding of the types and priorities of the fugitive leaks around them. All field tags regardless of color are readily visible and alert workers in the area to the presence of a leak.

Can field tags be easily replaced when lost or destroyed?

Yes, field tags can be replaced with a single tap on the listing of leaks at each location.

Technical

Is a constant Internet connection required for SMS to function?

No. We foresaw the need for SMS to function entirely without Internet-connectivity for remote sites where connectivity is unavailable.

This being said, SMS does require an Internet connection to sync up and down from the central repository. We encourage users of SMS to sync up once in the morning before heading out to the field and once again at night after returning.

Does SMS work on all mobile devices regardless of OS, screen size and device age?

Yes, SMS functions on virtually all mobile devices still used today that feature a camera.

Specifically, SMS is compatible with all versions of iOS 11+ and all versions of Android 7+. Most mobile devices from 2017 still function perfectly well with SMS.

Is SMS built on an extensible platform?

SMS is just the first module built on top of the Industrial-Strength Data Rig (ISDR) foundation we’ve created. The ISDR encapsulates the general (or core) functionalities all modules need, such as secure storage and data syncing, user authentication, etc., and allows for specific modules to be built upon it.

This means we can build new modules without recreating the wheel each time, which ultimately leads to less development time and less buggy and exploitable software.

Does SMS function on intrinsically safe devices?

Yes, SMS is designed to operate on virtually all intrinsically safe devices sold today

Are all leaks referenceable by QR code in SMS?

Yes, leaks can always be referenced by QR code without exception. An operator of SMS is never required to manually enter an ID or number from a field tag.

It should be noted that the ability to enter QR codes manually is available within SMS in the case that a device’s camera malfunctions and will not scan the field tag’s QR code.
